The English version of the Japanese bestseller.
Shiokari Pass is Ayako Miura's creation based on the true story of a certain Masao Nagano, who was a highly respected public servant and a fearless Christian in a currently intolerant Buddhist-Shinto society of Japan. In his ceaseless efforts to share his faith with his railway employees, he travelled widely visiting Railwaymen's Christian Association groups. It was on the way back from an outlying station, one freezing day, that the incident occurred which inspired the writing of Ayako Miura's book. As a result of what happened, many of his employees and townspeople became Christians. Even now 60 years after his untimely death, Masao Nagano is still revered in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, where he was a high ranking railway employee.
