Most of the gospel of John is devoted to Jesus' ministry at the feasts of Israel. It is within these Jewish traditions as a backdrop that God chose to reveal the divine and messianic credentials of Christ. Accordingly, John gives us a three-dimensional look at the Son of God. 1. Christ as antitype of Old Testament types, symbols, and prophecy is manifest through His relation to Israel's feasts. He was the one prefigured in all the ceremonies. 2. As a result, the Words of Christ spoken at the feasts take on a new level of meaning. They reveal His messiahship. 3. The Miracles confirm His credentials as the one foreshadowed in the symbolism of the feasts.
